it’s Carmel here from Eastern Elements Holistic.
I wanted to take some time and put pen to paper to explore with you something profoundly close to my heart. Something that is pivotal in our holistic journey- the true power of TRUE self-care on our mind, body, and energy.
In our fast-paced world, the concept of self-care often gets relegated to the occasional indulgence, rather than what it truly is: a vital component of our well-being.
Whilst a bubble bath is nice and a quick dog walk is great it’s not deep enough to be true self-care. We’ve been programmed to think it’s enough and it’s just not.
My path to becoming a holistic therapist (I’m based in Hereford) has shown me time and time again that self-care is not just one of these small ‘luxuries’ but it’s a necessity for maintaining harmony and vitality within ourselves.
Understanding Self-Care
Self-care is an expansive term that includes anything that soothes your soul, refreshes your body, and quiets your mind. For many, self-care could be as simple as reading a book or practicing yoga.
However, at Eastern Elements Holistic, we delve deeper, integrating practices that touch, not just the physical body, but also the energetic and spiritual layers of our being.
Physical Self-Care: The Foundation
The journey often begins with the physical, as it’s the most tangible aspect of ourselves. Physical self-care includes activities like yoga, massage, and proper nutrition, which directly impact our bodily health and comfort.
For instance, a Balinese full body massage, doesn’t just relieve muscle tension- it also enhances blood circulation and promotes lymphatic drainage, helping to detoxify the body and boost immune function. Each intentional stroke is designed to not only ease the physical body but also to bring peace to the mind, allowing you to emerge feeling lighter and more aligned.
Psychological Self-Care: Nurturing the Mind
Psychological self-care is equally as crucial. It involves managing stress, dealing with emotions, and fostering a positive mindset. Techniques like mindfulness, meditation or guided visualisations can dramatically reduce stress levels and improve mental clarity.
In my practice, I often integrate these techniques during sessions, providing a space where you can explore your inner landscape safely and freely.
For example, during our in-depth consultations, we set intentions which serve not only as a guide for our session but also as a tool for mental and emotional alignment going forward.
Energetic Self-Care: Aligning Your Spirit
Perhaps the most mystical, yet profoundly impactful, aspect of self-care is energetic healing. Our energy, or Chi, needs to flow freely for us to feel our best. Practices like Reiki, shamanic healing, and chakra balancing play an essential role in clearing blockages in the body’s energy pathways.
(And I don’t joke when I say shamanic healing changed my life)
A chakra balancing session, for instance, can transform feelings of being stuck or emotionally overwhelmed into a sense of clarity and empowerment. Each chakra corresponds to specific physical, emotional, and energetic states, and by addressing imbalances, we can bring about profound changes not just physically but in all aspects of life.
The Holistic Approach: Combining Mind, Body, and Energy
